Voting Membership Categories and Annual Dues

College/University

This category covers the admissions and financial aid departments of colleges and universities who are not for profit, accredited and grant 2 and/or 4 year degrees.


NY Opportunity Program 

(EOP, HEOP, SEEK, College Discovery, ACE, STEP, CSTEP, LPP) 

This category includes the Opportunity Programs of New York based colleges and universities who are not for profit, accredited and grant 2 and/or 4 year degrees. This would specifically include:  

  • Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at SUNY Institutions 

  • Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) at New York Private Colleges and Universities 

  • SEEK (Search For Education, Elevation, And Knowledge) at CUNY and SUNY Institutions 

  • CD (College Discovery) at select CUNY Institutions 

  • ACE (Advancing Completion through Engagement) at CUNY and SUNY Institutions 

  • STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program) at NYS Institutions

  • CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) at NYS Institutions 

  • LPP (Liberty Partnership Program) at NYS Institutions 


    Student*

    Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to join CACNY as voting members for a reduced rate. Contact membership@cacnyinc.org to apply for or renew membership.

    Secondary School

    This category includes public, parochial, and private high schools in the five boroughs of New York City. Most often, members are representatives from the schools’ guidance or college offices. 


    Community-Based College Access and Success Organization

    This category includes college access and success programs run by Community Based and/or Nonprofit Organizations, as well as programs located on college campuses not affiliated with undergraduate admissions. Note: CACNY reserves the right to request proof of not-for-profit status. 


    Independent Educational Consultant*

    This category includes consultants for whom at least 50% of their business is related to postsecondary access and success work. People applying to this membership will be asked to provide a brief description of the work they do, how they believe it aligns with the mission and values of CACNY, and their current client list or 2 references that can speak to their work. Note: this is subject to approval by the CACNY Board. If not approved, you will be offered to join under the nonvoting Individual Membership category.

    Nonvoting Membership Categories and Annual Dues

    Individual*

    All individual members applying for membership must obtain a referral from a current CACNY member who is familiar with the applicant in a professional capacity for a period of at least two years as well as a resume that shows that they are not currently working in the college access/success. This is a NON-Voting Membership.

    • Retired Professionals who were actively engaged in providing counseling, admission or financial aid services for at least 10 years and are deemed retired under the retirement program of the last institution employing them and is no longer employed on a full-time basis in the profession or working as an independent educational consultant.
    • Professionals who volunteer their time in the college access/success world who are not currently employed by an organization/employer that is eligible for CACNY membership.

    For-Profit Company*

    A special member designation is established for the inclusion of educational for-profit organizations that provide education products and/or varying types of services to counseling programs, as well as for the admissions and financial aid process. For-profit companies are allowed to join, provided their activities within CACNY are solely restricted to those that support the mission and goals of CACNY. For-profit degree or diploma granting colleges, or universities are not eligible for membership in CACNY. This is a NON-Voting Membership.

    *Note: Documentation or recommendation/referral by a current CACNY member may be requested and/or required. CACNY reserves the right to accept or deny membership to individuals on a case-by-case basis.

    Please remember, that except for the Student/Individual category, the ORGANIZATION is the CACNY member and each organization will designate a bundle coordinator. All bundle prices are priced for two individuals. Additional pairs of members are added as a 30% discount.

    For example, if you are a CBO, Opportunity Program, Secondary School, or Independent Consultant, you can add an additional 2 members for $42 each.  Colleges/universities can add an additional pair of members for $70 each.     We are specifically interested in attracting vibrant members who are as committed as
    we are to helping young people from New York achieve post-secondary success.
     
    Membership Types and Annual Dues
     
    • Colleges/Universities: This category covers the admissions and financial aid
    department of colleges and universities. Dues are $75.
     
    • High Schools: This category includes public, parochial, and private high schools in
    the five boroughs of New York City. Most often, members are representatives from
    the schools’ guidance or college offices. Dues are $35.
     
    • Community-Based Organizations: This category includes college access programs
    run by CBOs, as well as programs located on college campuses, but are not affiliated
    with undergraduate admissions. (Examples of programs in this category include
    Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Liberty Partnerships.) Dues are $35.
     
    • Independent Counselors and Education Consultants:* In certain instances,individuals who have worked with college access programs are welcomed to become members. Individuals who were once employed by a CACNY-member school or college, and who remain actively engaged in the field as consultants to organizations or as job seekers are welcome to apply for an individual membership. Dues are $35.
    *Please note: CACNY reserves the right to accept or deny membership to individuals on a case-by-case basis.
     
    • Non-Voting Memberships:
     
    a). For-Profit Entitles:
     
    A special member designation is established for the inclusion of for-profit
    entities that provide education products and/or varying types of services
    to counseling programs, as well as admissions and financial aid
    professionals. For-profit entities are allowed to join, provided their
    activities within CACNY are solely restricted to those that support the
    mission and goals of CACNY. (Organizations that award a degree or
    diploma are not eligible for non-voting membership) Dues are $75.
     
    b). Students
    We welcome students who applying for college and believe they have an
    important voice to share. This special category of membership means
    they recognize they will not have an opportunity to vote on any CACNY
    matters. Dues are $35.
