CACNY Board Nominations
In preparation for upcoming CACNY Board elections, Stacey Haley, chair of the nominating committee will share information on board roles, the election process and formally start the nominating process.
Topic: SUNY Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC)
Administered through the State University of New York (SUNY), Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) are a statewide network of ten centers committed to providing educational and vocational training opportunities to disadvantaged adults, urban communities and employers of New York State.
Meylin Andares will provide an overview of the SUNY Education Opportunity Centers and introduce representatives from all NYC based EOCs including:
EOC Brooklyn- Angel Calderon
EOC Queens- Annick Aska
EOC Bronx- Allen Hopeton
EOC Manhattan- Stacy Cummins
Together the group will highlight how EOCs:
• Provide an integrated system of education, training and student support services to underserved and adult residents;
• Offer targeted services to business and industry to upgrade the skill levels of incumbent workers;
• Collaborate with secondary schools to assist in the academic preparation of youth-at-risk;
• Provide intergenerational learning programs to strengthen families; and narrow the digital divide in economically challenged communities by placing technology where it is accessible.
